The MonoSpec27 with its three grating mount can be used to maximize the spectral coverage of the region of interest by, for example, using three gratings blazed at different wavelengths to give optimum efficiency over the entire range of interest. Another approach would be to use three gratings all blazed at the same wavelength but with different groove spacings, for example, 1200, 600 and 300 g/mm. Using this combination of gratings with a diode array detector, one can cover a wide spectral range with the 300 g/mm grating and then zero in on a region of specific interest with the 600 or 1200 g/mm grating.

Stray light is at a minimum with the MonoSpec27 due to the Crossed Czerny-Turner optical design, which also virtually eliminates re-entry spectra. And, there is no sacrifice of throughput; the monochromator has an f/number of 3.8. For maximum flexibility in system design, the entrance and exit slits are in a straight line.

Two configurations are available: the MonoSpec27 can be a monochromator or a spectrograph. Spectrograph models are configured with an expanded focal plane at the exit port. This focal plane is 25 mm wide by 18 mm high with virtually no vignetting!
